Fausta McDermott received her Juris Doctor from Cornell University School of Law in 1985 where she was the Recipient of the Cornell Merit Scholarship. She also was the Graduate Assistant for the Law, Ethics and Religion Program and the Family Division Director, Legal Aid Clinic. Fausta is admitted to the New York State Bar as well as the United States District Courts in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
Fausta received her Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from Manhattan College in 1982. She received the Full Presidential Scholarship as well as the Alfred Dunhill of London Scholarship (Governor's Committee on Scholastic Achievement). Fausta was also inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa, Epsilon Sigma Pi and Omicron Delta Epsilon Societies.
Fausta's legal background includes several years as a prosecutor in the Bronx District Attorney's Office's Appeals and Investigations Bureaus. After leaving the Bronx DA's Office, Fausta entered private practice.
Fausta has the distinction of being one of a handful attorneys in New York State experienced in Disinterment Law which includes obtaining court orders permitting the removal of human remains from one cemetery to another cemetery. Fausta's elder law practice includes preparation of wills, health care proxies, living wills and powers of attorney. In addition to probating wills, participating in administration proceedings and adult guardianship matters, Fausta has assisted people with very large complex to relatively small estates.
